Default VPIP of 8 and going deep

I often see players going deep in MTT's while only having a VPIP of 8.

Can that be a winning style?

Which great MTT'er has the tightest style?

I go deep a lot and don't really know what VPIP means (general idea but never used it)...goes to a common theme on this forum and that is you can't use formulaic poker...each table and each tourney are unique and the best MTTers will adjust their style to their situation

Can that be a winning style? Yes, depending on structure...

I have a vpip of 4.44 at the 200000/400000 level.

Brandi, I have to assume you're joking.
If not, please elaborate.

I'm not sure any tournament has a combination of slow struture + horrible players that don't adjust to you being insanely tight to make a living playing 5 or 8% VPIP. When blinds and antes get big late you'll just get destroyed waiting for a hand.

Yes, joking. I checked my stats to see where I was and I average between 18 and 35. The 4.44 came up cause I was sitting out while expertly negotiating a deal.

Brag: I got a 5 way chop with 1/7 the chips of the leader.

I would, however, expect that there are plenty of 30-40 hand stretches where I have been card dead and I would show a vpip of <10 if table changes worked out right.
