$4.40 180 SNG - Jacks w/ King high board
Posting this for a friend. Villain in this event is quite loose and aggressive, and overall a fairly terrible player. He's gotten his money in bad on several occasions with some bad bluffs and worse calls, but still managed to stumble his way along in the tournament. Then we have this situation:
PokerStars Tournament, Big Blind is t200 (8 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com UTG (t8453) Hero (t14014) MP1 (t5) MP2 (t6555) CO (t9840) Button (t9472) SB (t6090) BB (t5255) Preflop: Hero is in UTG+1 with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG folds, Hero raises to t600, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, CO calls t600, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds Flop: (t1500) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, CO bets t600, Hero calls t600 Turn: (t2700) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, CO bets t1600, Hero folds Obviously Hero decided to play passively here, but I'm thinking there's a better way to handle this. My original thought was to lead straight out, but this villain will likely raise an extremely wide range, leaving us no closer to determining if our Jacks are best. So then I thought check-raising may be better, but am still not entirely certain given the stack sizes involved. This villain is capable of calling such a raise and then firing the turn with hands other than a King after we check, but leading the turn consumes an awful lot of chips. What's your line? --TFGoose |

ugly spot...problem compounded by the fact that if your buddy is that much of a LAG the COmy do this even lighter...that being said it's close between leading out and check calling here...
I actually like your friends line here and turn is a fold |

Yeah I thought about check-call as well, but was concerned that the guy could second barrel the turn with air and we still don't know where we are. Ugh, I hate this hand. Based solely on the fact that all the other options are difficult situations, perhaps the passive line is in fact best. I'm open to suggestion though.

If you've seen villain call a ton pf, then call a ton post flop, then bet the turn when checked to. I'd at least call based on hero's read. What donk calls with top pair on that board? I would imagine he would raise the flop. I'd probably check/raise the turn or check/call the whole way down.

Re: $4.40 180 SNG - Jacks w/ King high board
If he had the read that this guy was so terrible, capable of bluffing off his chips, why not let him do it? Just check call all the way. I am not terribly afraid of the K. And by check calling the flop and then checking the turn, he just is inviting this guy to bet with any 2. I would just call him down to keep the pot as small as I can just in case he shows up with the K. Check raising is expensive, it lets him off the hook if he's bluffing or has a weak pair, and it amounts to just guessing at whether or not he actually has a K.
