The Moneymaker reruns in year one did more for mid week TV ratings than anything in the history of sports TV. We (the poker playing community) reaped major benefits but what gets overlooked is that ESPN was the real winner.

IMO adding a CFB game every other night has helped fill the void as the TV poker craze fizzles but how much Southern Miss can the average sports fan really take.

Who would be surprised if ESPN used this Dr. Bob story just to prop up the midweek ratings. Let’s face it the average sports betting noob is near busted by week 7 and could care less about watching mediocre football unless they can beat the spread.

This is Dr. Bob's record since 2004, which is when he said he refined his math model. "Star Basis" obviously means if he wins a 4-star, it is the equivalent of 4-0, or loses one it is 0-4. So far in 2007 he is 13-22, and 31-60 on the star basis:

Year Record Star Basis
2006 45-34-3 125-89-7
2005 51-21-2 136-49-5
2004 55-34-1 131-87-2

I don't think the numbers you gave are his final 2006 audited numbers, they were reported in the WSJ before bowl season was over.
[If you have some link or pdf showing that he stopped after starting 1-4 in Bowls last year, pls provide, as we'd all appreciate it.]

'No handicapper is immune from rough spells. Mr. Stoll has now had two consecutive losing seasons in the NFL. And while he was right about Iowa, his current record in this year's bowls is 1-4.' ~wsj
So the 45-34 record is incomplete.

He was 46-55-2 in 2003, not sure why that would be left out.

Don't get me wrong, hitting 57% since 1999 is amazing. It really is.

He didn't have many plays last bowl season, he did finish at 1-4 (don't have a pdf, but I was getting his plays emailed to me from a buddy as it was happening).

yeah...his record is real good even with the reality of it all

I cannot believe that 64% 'tout-BSing' number is what they used

57% is still so freaking awesome

i wish they'd hit that angle more

the average punter might give up on Bob after a few weeks...I want the average guy in for a longer haul

Okay, if you say he stopped at 1-4 in bowls last year then I guess I believe it, even though he didn't indicate that in the wsj article, so, okay.

Where is the audited pdf of the 64% number? Why not spend the $2000 on Deloitte or KPMG or etc to add up a bunch of columns and say 64% or 57%, since 57% or more is simply mind-blowing over 8+ years.
