Re: Stoxtrader is \"In the Well\"
[ QUOTE ]
Hi Stox, great thread. I just want to know the impact of moving from wallstreet to full time poker had on your family, what were their views, was there a transition from uncertainty to full support? How did your friends view this move? Have you seen players unsuccefully make the transition? If so, what were their downfalls? Also, how much live play have you experienced before making the transition into full time poker? How much live play do you experience now? Thanks! [/ QUOTE ] live play almost none, just a two main events and one WPT and some of the bigger cash games during those events - deepstacked 25/50 (50k stacks), and 800/1600 LHE, but really maybe 300 hours of live poker total. I don't really know anyone who has "unuccessfully" gone "pro", but that doesnt span too many people. I do only know one other person who left a good wallstreet job for poker and he does very well. I'm very conservative with money and my wife is great - very supportive, so that wasn't an issue and the transition has worked out great for us. most friends think its cool but sometimes its a bit weird, I always put "author" down for my occupation when it comes up |

Stox: I saw you mentioned pokerEV in your latest blog post. I (and I'm sure many others) would love to see a pokerEV graph for your last 100k (or whatever sample) of NL, and last 100k of limit. I'm specifically interested in seeing the swings in equity adjusted winnings, although a lot of the other graphs are interesting as well. [/ QUOTE ] everytime i load more than a few days EV crashes on me. I *think* my variance for LHE was in the high teens and for NL high 40s in terms of std. dev. |

What's your take on other limit poker games like the Stud, O/8, Stud/8 & Razz? Should a limit hold'em specialist take the time to learn these games, or are they passe'? Or are they just passe' on the internet? What about HORSE, SHOE and other mixed limit poker games? Do these games have a future, live or on the internet? [/ QUOTE ] I'm probably not qualified to answer this as I've enver played some of those other than 2+2 get togethers or whatev. |

First of all big props you as far as I can see with my 19 years you have achived very much in life. I have 2 questions: I downloaded like 20-25 vids of stoxpoker at a poker related torrent site.Did you(stoxpoker) really allow it? If you would have to teach a beginner for 1/2$-3/6§ 6max LHE in like 3 sentances, what would you tell him? [/ QUOTE ] there is one place that we allowed early on to show only old videos, i did not know it was that many. please PM me the details if you would. 3 sentences: I would rather teach a man to fish than bring him his dinner so... read books, watch videos, play hands, study pokertracker, post questions, repeat. |

Why do you think you have progressed up 30/60+ faster than the average 2p2er (if this is indeed true) ? [/ QUOTE ] not sure if its true or not, timeline for me was 25c/50c dec 2003 and 300/600 march 2005. At the start it was easy bankroll wise, then the money started to matter and I probably was lucky moving up to the biggest limits because I ran well. |

Re: Stoxtrader is \"In the Well\"

why do you like to free showdown raise so much in LHE? I rarely find spots where I feel it would be a good play I think the criteria for a good FSDR spot are: - some better hands fold, and some worse hands call - charge draws that won't put more bets in UI - not have to worry about folding the best hand to a reraise I find that very rarely will more than 1 of these conditions be met. almost noone folds a pair or ace high in the small-mid limit games I play, draws usually fire a last barrel UI, and vs many aggressive players there is the risk of a 3bet semibluff some reasons I can think of why FSDR would be good in a general sense is that they help you avoid tough river decisions and raising the turn often may slow down an aggressive flop checkraiser thanks [/ QUOTE ] if your reads on many of your opponents are correct, it does sound like the FSDR goes down in value, but it also sounds like these could be profitable games. the 3 bet semibluff is arguably the perfect counter, I am surprised you see it often. finding someone who does that OOP on the turn I think is rare, maybe i am wrong. if you did not think folding the best hand was a risk, raising the turn is better than going call/call in position because you can get three bets if you improve. |
