Man, I am 33 and I have never in my life seen anyone chew tobacco. Is it an American thing? Is it a Southern States thing? Is it as frowned upon as smoking?

I live in New Jersey, by the shore, and you can get dip at any convenient store, its far from a Southern thing only, although I'm sure its more popular in the South.
I started freshman year because of the boredom of football meetings, how did you guys start?
