[ QUOTE ]
Life does have a purpose and a meaning and I can even tell you where to begin looking, at the person of Jesus Christ.
You can become a completely new creation and leave all this behind whenever you want.

[/ QUOTE ]
So you want to delude him? This is the same way cults recruit people. Find people that are depressed and fill their heads with bs that they buy into just because they want to believe in something.

I wholeheartedly believe in what I said. You believing that it's a delusion is irrelevant. I have seen peoples lives completely transformed by believing in Christ. All i'm offering is a tried and tested something to believe in that has changed the world for the better.

Life without God is lame and meaningless, as we are made for a purpose.

[ QUOTE ]
My meaning in life is going to be marrying my girlfriend, and trying to spend as much time as i can sitting around enjoying my time with her, probably having kids also, and seeing as much of the world as I can while i have time.

i've always been one of those hellish types i guess.

[/ QUOTE ]
Those things are part of God's plan and are indeed good things. But life is meant to be about much more than our own pleasure and enjoyment. Those acts are not hellish one iota, but living solely for them is.

In the end if you live for these things you will leave this world wanting, as you have missed the point of life, to know and love God.

I don't know. I went to Catholic school for 7 years and it didn't do much for me. Buying a Porsche though really improved my life.

I don't think he needs religious conversion. He needs to have fun and enjoy life. Getting out of his parent's house is the best thing for him.

"Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination."
- Mark Twain

"Each of us is alone: sometimes we escape from solitariness, through love or affection or perhaps creative moments, but those triumphs of life are pools of light we make for ourselves while the edge of the road is black: each of us dies alone."
- CP Snow

You wholeheartedly believe in Christianity? How can you make such a statement?
[ QUOTE ]
You believing that it's a delusion is irrelevant.

[/ QUOTE ]
It's not only relevent but very important. If people make huge leaps of faith (such as wholeheartedly believing in a Christian god) just to make themselves feel happy there is going to be very bad outcomes (see, crusades, jihad, genocide, cult mass suicides).

I don't get how you can possibly think believing in something because it feels good can possibly be a good thing.

Show me that believing in faith over logic and reason has made the world a better place.

this is starting to get off topic, but i'll respond. i was raised catholic. about 18 or so, i started having doubts. Going to church was silly, i wasn't paying attention. I didn't care what everyone was talking about. Deep down, i knew i didn't believe these things. Its not like I could just choose "i believe in god/christianity". I just didn't, and still don't. I could pretend i do. I could live a good catholic life until i die, but at the end of the day it would've just been a facade i put on so my life would appear more acceptable to a god i never even believed existed, just in case he's gonna throw me in a pit of fire after i die.

in my experience, religious belief is unrelated to how good of a person you are or how happy you are, and i wholeheartedly believe that most of what you say is not correct. so i guess we're at an impasse.

I agree that your question is a bit loaded. Asking how to cope with the emptiness of life assumes that life has no meaning. You may in fact be right, that life has no meaning, however what may be important here is that you equally consider that life MAY have meaning.

If one alternative provides you with pain, consider switching to the other side. I'm not telling you to believe in god, or to believe in anything for that matter. But perhaps increasing your capacity to consider that life has some meaning somewhere might help. Belief and hope are great and required for as long as you do not completely understand something. IMHO, understanding is the journey, however short you may assume it to be.

Since the culmination of your life has brought you to this point, I might suggest that you consider trying to understand this point in your life. This is obviously work that may or may not interest you. If it does interest you, you may or may not have the will to follow through with your interest. Hence.......

I think its great that you have a shrink. Would you consider a hypnotherapist? Many of them are psychiatrists and psychologists as well. They can provide you with that spark where you can then be responsible for putting yourself into a trance, and begin suggesting things to yourself to improve or gain the insight to understanding different aspects of your life.

You may also have a great need for attention. Not because you always crave being the center of attention, but because attention is like food, water and air, and a human being cannot live without it. You may not be fulfilling your daily quota of attention, and therefore cannot function at full capacity. Just like if you were malnourished, you would be tired, have a lack of focus, concentration. A lack of attention carries with it very similar, if not identical symptoms.
