Re: US faces US$100 billion fine for web gambling ban
Everyone who thinks the US just can igonore it like nothing happened have no clue. USA have always caved in when WTO have made a judgement. If they try to do something else this is what will happen.
WTO:Well, EU and Asian countries can now put up some steel customs likje 20% so noone will import from the US any longer. Steel companys reactions is to complain to the government as always have been the case. Bush says, oh crap we need to solve this otherwise we'll loose some 100ks of voters and then they agree with the WTO in some way and has to take a hit some way. Since the US has lost most of it's support world wide but from the UK and Israel due to the Iraqi farce they will have a rough time in world wide politics the coming 20-30 years. Not many will listen to them. |

what amazes me most as a european is how someone can win an election without having majority of the votes(bush vs gore) wtf us system? im not even gonna start with the [censored] up us law [/ QUOTE ] It happens more often in Europe than it does in America. In the 50s-70s in Britain alone it happened more often than it has in the entire history of the U.S. And when you combine that with proportional representation (as in most Continental systems), it becomes unclear what a "majority" even is. But clearly there are sometimes governing coalitions a majority of voters would have rather not seen take power. The only difference is that the middlemen in the European systems are nominally legislative bodies. |
