Pokerstars making you pay to use Data tracking software?
hi all,
sorry if this is in another thread if so could someone please link. I read in WPT mag yesterday that this was to happen where You transfer 0.03c into and account and receiving it back is confirmation you accept your data to be shown on their site? Not actually sure if thats what happens, only glanced at it and it was only a small side column in the mag, but it mentioned this was talked about on 2p2. anyone clarify please? cheers |

Re: Pokerstars making you pay to use Data tracking software?
I believe the policy was that sites like sharkscope and OPR could not display certain information (like profit) unless a player opted-in by sending $.03 to them. You could also opt-out completely by sending another amt. If you do nothing they can just display limited info, like what tourneys you played and amount won.
It looks like sharkscope may be fighting this, since I noticed yesterday that they are now listed as prohibited software (or at least "pending"). http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/prohibited/ |

Re: Pokerstars making you pay to use Data tracking software?
PokerStars is not making you pay to use tracking software.
PokerStars is trying to protect their customers from the unwanted use of data. I don't particularly like the fact that my opponents can go to a website that collects data about me, without my permission. The 3 cent transfer is just PokerStars mechanism for indicating that a player "opts in" to have his data tracked by the given tracking service. Since most players, other than diehard Sharkscope users will probably not bother, the default is that most players will "opt out" and that the tracking service will then be prohibited from displaying data for that user id. That is their intention. It will not inhibit you from using whatever service you like, but it will probably have the effect of making the data less complete and less accurate over time. |

Also, for what it's worth, you're not actually "paying" them $0.03. Though you do have to send them 3 cents to opt in, they send you the 3 cents back a couple of days later.
