tricky villian
What do you put this guy on? I put him on AQ and had planned to steal on the river if a flush card came on the turn. But, when the K came, I decided to play it the same way. Again, I think one of my major flaws is not putting an oppenent on a wider range of hands.
Villian is 31/15/1.3 Absolute Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.25/$0.50 6 players Converter Stack sizes: Hero: $101.30 UTG+1: $61.70 CO: $92.27 Button: $37.25 SB: $52.95 BB: $20 Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is UTG with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Hero raises to $2, UTG+1 folds, CO calls, Button folds, SB calls, BB folds. Re: tricky villian
i dont like this play.. by making this bet you have air or the nuts... and if you dont have the nuts you are always getting called by a better hand.

Re: tricky villian
there are two reasons why we bet
1: to make a better hand fold 2; To get value from a worse hand ie: in this situation its very unlikly we are making a better hand fold. We are not getting any value if called so why are we betting?? |

Re: tricky villian
Hard to say what he had. I think he sensed that you didn't have a Queen by your check-call (a check-raise would have given him pause). He may have been playing based off you you, regardless of his own cards. So the information you were getting from him coulda been skewed because he was just reacting to you, knowing you didn't have a Q...
If he's a thinking player, he probably thought you were on a flush draw by your calling... and an extra heart woulda been great for you. Did he have a 7? Or 7-2? |

Re: tricky villian
Yeah I really don't like this play. I would fold this on the turn, unless you feel like representing the King, in which I would raise the turn. If you believe he really does have AQ (or any Q), raising the turn would be your best line for trying to take it away. Then and only then will a river bet probably be the best idea, you're representing strength.
It's hard to determine sometimes what a villain has by their betting sizes. Sometimes I see people put in weak bets when they really are scared, or sometimes they do it with a set and just want a call. |

Re: tricky villian
So he was throwin you some rope. Risky by him to disrespect his pocket Aces by doing that, but the board gave him very favorable cards. He probably thought you had AQ or were trying to steal the pot with missed flush/sraight draws that you were semibluffing. He called ya down huh? If so, it's stupid of him not to...

Re: tricky villian
I did it in an aggressive 5-way pot today! Board: AQ clubs, 7 hearts. I acted like a calling station on a draw. Then the river came 6 of clubs and I bet moderately strong from early position... everyone folded. There had to have been at least one Ace out there.
