[ QUOTE ]
Someone in that retarded RedBean thread said that saying blacks are "fleet-footed" is both racist and offensive to blacks. I didn't understand why. Actually, they said it implied black inferiority. That's even weirder, since when is slow-footedness a desired trait?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, IIRC, the article said that blacks were good criminals because they were so fast, but there's more. The issue is obviously not whether blacks are fast or slow (whatever that means). One of the most common negative stereotypes is that blacks are "physically gifted" but stupid. (On a related note, do you think it's flattering to black QBs that they're so often described as "athletic"?) Blacks may not be as smart as Asians, but I think most of them are clever enough to figure out that lazy, poorly substantiated claims about one benign characteristic, speed, are, as UA points out, often only a precursor to malignant claims about genetic intelligence and related BS.

The reason black people get so sensitive when you say something about the average black person being faster or more physically gifted than the average white person (also known as stating the obvious), is because if they acknowledge this as truth, it would mean there are real differences between blacks and whites, genetically, and it opens the door for people to begin saying whites are more intelligent on average than blacks.

Rather than have an honest discussion about race and genetics they'd rather plug their ears and do the *LA LA LA no differences at all LA LA LA * thing

[/ QUOTE ]

I see your point. Kind of like militant feminists who refuse to believe their is a biological difference in the way males and females think.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's not just militant feminists. Read languagelog.com for more than you ever wanted to know about how completely BS most claims about gender-based cognition and language are.

You think things like speed, strength, and size are controlled by culture rather than genetics?

Clearly if a culture values a particular activity and people in that culture practice that activity alot, they'll get better at it, but it won't help them if they are genetically incapable of doing it at a high level.

Assume hypothetically there was such thing as "midget culture" and they loved US football and every single midget on the planet did nothing but practice and train for football every waking minute of every day they could. They would maximize their potential but not a single one of them would make the NFL.

To try to explain black's dominance of pretty much every sport they participate in large numbers purely to "culture" is a stretch, to say the least.

If a black man scores a touchdown, we think nothing of it.

Baseball?

Also, you're accomplishing so much just by waving your hands, think of what you could do if you said "Abracadabra!" too.

I went to a math competition in high school, and like 50% of the kids were Asian. Therefore Asians are smarter than everyone else. QED.

Isn't that precisely the same logic as saying "I went to a Falcon's game and 50% of the players were black?"

I mean, personally, my opinion is, it's not true, statistically that black people are stronger, that white people are smarter, but c'mon, it's not racist either. People are so sensitive these days.

Every sport? Swimming, Polo, Hockey, golf, and lacrosse: dominated by white people, hold no significance in black culture, and are expensive to play.

Basket Ball is positively reinforced by the black community, praised among black youth, and can be played in any square mile of any City for as cheap as 5 bucks. Same goes for football. If people bothered to look, there are numerous cultural explanations for Black dominance in certain sports.
