Fluke win tonight, we need to give the year up and next year. So we can get Tavares and so that Ferguson gets fired.

lol you can't tank the year and be a lock for Tavares. The lottery keeps teams from being able to do that.

<3 Gamache

As much as I loved this win, this team still needs A LOT of help. I don't see Raycroft playing this well very often, to state the obvious.

If there's one way to rebound from a humiliating loss, it's to destroy a mediocre-at-best team. I was expecting Toskala to start.

Looking forward to the Pens game. It'll be interesting to see which goalie gets the nod after Toskala's shelling and Razor's solid outing tonight.

There are some teams that are always one or two keys players away from being a "final four" contender. They try to address that through some key free agent signings, trading away the future for an improved "now," or getting one or two solid veterans in key spots.

The problem with the Leafs is that they don't fall into the above category, but have, for the last 10 to 15 years, managed their team as if they did. Thus, they are stuck with overpriced verterans, project players, lack of depth, and few if any upcoming prospects.

I know it's been said lots before, but the sooner the Leafs dismantle and build for 4 or 5 years from now the better. The ironic thing is that there only a few teams who could do this and not risk ruin, and the Leafs are one of them.

But the Leafs just can't pull the plug - this isn't a bad team. With some (okay a lot) luck this team could be in the Cup Finals.

The Habs are stuck in the same predicament.

If they slip into the playoffs, it could easily happen. Look at Edmonton - for 2 months, Dwayne Roloson looked like an All-Star and Fernando Pisani was John Druce. If Toskala or Raycroft somehow get hot like that, the Leafs definitely have the talent on the rest of the roster to get there.

Like I said, anything is possible. The fact that they have a non-zero chance of making it to the finals if a bunch of miracles occur is not reason enough to not blow up and rebuild the team, though.

What are they going to rebuild the team with? They have nothing in the system. They keep trading away draft picks. It makes sense to do what they're doing now - as long as they don't keep trading picks.

This whole 'blowing up the team' thing just doesn't happen that often. It doesn't mostly because it's stupid.
