Anyways, a cap-and-trade system is a close second in theory, although I don't think it would be managed well in real life.

Several of the authors of Kyoto are in shock at how badly it's being abused.

[/ QUOTE ]

They shouldn't be.

I forgot about CAFE. The Dems are in favor of increasing CAFE standards.

[/ QUOTE ]

Funny the UAW isn't, what say you iron about this:

U.S. automakers try to slow CAFE changes

Anyway there's not shred of proof that the proposed increases in MPG that CAFE standard changes would impose will do a bit of good or make the least amount of impact.

Yeah, it's always a shock when you really pay attention to what governments are doing for the first time. It's nice that these people found something to bring their attention to the problem.

Wow, whose taxation rate is >50?

[/ QUOTE ]

Germany, Israel, Sweden, and Norway if you count the total tax burden.

If you restrict yourself to income, the top US rate is 35%.
In California, you get to 9.3% after only $43,000. Then it becomes 10.3% at one million making 45.3% total. New York City is a little higher still.

[/ QUOTE ]

Add in sales tax 6-9% usually, taxes on gasoline are huge, smokers pay a hefty tax on cigs, ever look at your phone bill??? lots of hidden taxes in there. Add in the fees for liscense plates and other govt requirements, and yeah 50 % of you money goes to the govt in one form or the other.

Not quite what the founding fathers intended IMO.

revolted against "taxation without representation"

[/ QUOTE ]

It was a revolt against taxes, period. The "without representation" part was PR pure and simple since the representation issue was in all liklihood dead in England anyway. No way they'd ever have given each colony a seat in the HoC and no way the 13 colonies would have accepted a single seat for representation.
