NL200: QJs in reraised pot
Villain is 17/14/25 over 200 hands. The AF doesnt really say much; he just seems to be a quite tight agressive player. Just want to know how you would play the hand.

Re: NL200: QJs in reraised pot
i would have folded pre-flop. 17/14s are usually 3-betting extremely tight against an UTG open from the blinds. so fold unless you know something about him that we don't.
flop is fine. but then i'd probably fold the turn, i doubt he's bluffing w/JJ or TT. |

i would def raise flop. [/ QUOTE ] why do you wanna raise the flop? do you not think this is a way ahead/way behind situation? and what worse hands are calling if we raise? |

[/ QUOTE ] that were my same thoughts when I called on the flop. I called on the turn because he was offering me 1 to 3 pot odds and I had picked up a backdoor flush draw and had some outs for two pair/trips. |

Re: NL200: QJs in reraised pot
I think the hand could be played somewhat differently. You don't explain the playing styles of your opponents. But I will assume a raise is fine here. But I think your 4x the blind is bad raise. You are creating a bad stack-to-pot ratio for your hand (See Pg. 165 in Professional No-Limit Holdem). I think raising 2 1/2 to 3x the big blind would be better. You don't want to build a big pot with QJs. I don't think you should call a reraise with QJs in this spot unless you put your opponent on a wide range of hands. However, I will assume you can put him on a wide range of hands. I would probably raise on the flop with QJs and try to win the pot there. However, if he pushes back I think you will have to fold.

Re: NL200: QJs in reraised pot
i think the preflop call is terrible. QJs plays pretty bad against a 17/14 3betting an UTG raiser's range.
w/e after that, it's just a really tough spot, which is what happens when you make these dumb calls. i think a small 4bet preflop / folding to a push is much better (i wouldn't recomend it but it is better) |
