Default Doing video poker for a casino bonus

Example: you do a 100% up to $200 casino bonus, and the T & C prohibit blackjack, so you decide to play JoB video Poker. Let's assume the wagering requirement is 15 X (deposit + bonus), or $6,000. Using $0.50 coins, your max-coin betting unit is $2.50, giving you only 160 betting units and a WR of 2,400 wagers. Is the risk of ruin too high to attempt this kind of bonus, given the volatility of video poker? I have tried this a few times and gone broke every single time. I realize the expected return is something like 99.46% using a basic optimal strategy, but if you don't hit any royals or straight flushes in the short span of time you're trying to complete the bonus, you're basically screwed, and just spewing your bankroll until you hit zero. I've never even gotten past 1/4 of the wager requirements for a video poker bonus without going broke.

Has anyone had success doing these kinds of bonuses? Any advice?
