Default Turned the flush.... now IM facing a river push on a paired board.

Just sat down. Villian is a 40/10/2.25

I lead the turn, because I didnt like c/c or c/r.

Now he pushes the river when I checked (loooking to c/c) - clearly a 1/2 psb woulda been better then fold to a raise, but given the line I took whos calling and why? and whos folding and why?

(I have a note on him daying he makes small blocker bets when he wants cheap showdown.)

SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks, BTN bets $2, SB calls $2, Hero calls $2, UTG folds

Turn: ($10) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $7, BTN calls $7, SB folds

Just so you know, this note is irrelevant here. Villain is in position -- he has no reason to block. If he wanted a cheap showdown he would have just checked behind.

So, villain made a big overbet in a pot where you've got a flush.

You beat bluffs, AK (TPTK), AQ (straight), AA (overpair), QQ(underpair), and KJ/KT/JT (two pair). I doubt this passive villain is raising preflop with KJ or KT, so we can minimize those.

What beats us? KK/JJ/TT (boat), A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]x[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (nut flush), K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (strong flush).

How solid is this read on villain, given that you just sat down? A 2.25 aggression says he's pretty aggressive. When you bet the turn you kind of tipped your hand as strong -- the board pairs and flushes and you go from check/calling to betting -- so villain probably knows you like your hand. Despite this he pushes the river. If he thought you were bluffing on the turn he could have stolen the river for a song -- $12 would pick up the pot against garbage just as easily as $40 would. So I'm thinking that villain actually LIKES his hand against your range, and given that your range bottoms out at trips and is very likely a flush, I suspect he has the full house fairly often, here. Since you need to win about 40% of the time for this to be +EV, I'm afraid I'd fold.

I'd also pay attention to villain in the future and try to quickly get a read on him so that I know what this sort of river push means in the future.

Why do you check the river? I would try to get some value out of 2 pairs hands.

As played I think I call the river I think he does this with more than a boat

i folded - I figured my bet looked strong, he knows this and thinks his shove will get paid anyways.
