Re: I just blew my bankroll on blackjack....
Hi
The problem is you have a gambling prob.Early or later you will play a casino bonus, and earlier or later you will spend 100$ at slots. Its not a problem as long you can cover this with winnings from poker....but be carefull. |

Re: I just blew my bankroll on blackjack....
[ QUOTE ]
Hi guys, First post here in a while but I need to advice. Basically I have just blew my $2000 bankroll on blackjack in the space of about 5 minutes of madness, and though I have never done this before I feel like has been coming for a while. A little background first. I usually play 1/2 NLH multi tables and have been a regular grinder winner over the last year or so. I play about 10 a week online and I am happy to grind up to about $6000 or so they cash out to pay for real life stuff. A couple of months ago I felt for the first time I wasnt getting any buzz from winning. If I lost, even a little, I felt annoyed, but if I won the same amount I felt nothing really- almost like I got used to winning. Over last couple of months I havent played nearly as much but have been sitting down at big games way above my bankroll and going through huge playing swings. I think even then it was becoming only a negative. If I was up $1k it felt pretty good but if I lost $1k I would feel ill. Im a student and dont have many money issues- dont have much but not many overheads, and I feel sick when I lose a large amount that I could really use in real life. Anyway, just now after losing about $100 playing silly HU games I went mental and for reasons I cant explain donked $2k on blackjack and lost my whole bankroll. I feel ill again but have no explanation why I did it. I dont like to think I have a gambling problem, and rarely gamble outside poker but what ive done cant be normal. Im planning to stop playing for a while anyway while I sort out my PhD but I actually will seriously miss poker money if I dont have it. I can only afford $500 or so to start again but would like any thoughts/opinions on what is going on with me? Beyond poker life is good and have little to worry about but as I say I cant belive I am throwing money like that away, and perhaps need some kind of help Thanks for listening, [/ QUOTE ] I actually did something very similar, dropped about $1k in a night in 9 hands of BJ, havent placed a bet since and I now play poker for a living. For me the experience was negative enough I never did it again dont get too discouraged that you did this. |

Re: I just blew my bankroll on blackjack....
I've never played house games myself. I'm not stupid. Instead I did something much worse. I started dating a girl who enjoyed house games and I let her play from my bankroll. She lost so much money I had to sell some rental properties to pay off the debts. So we all do stupid things. Take the $500 and rebuild.

Re: I just blew my bankroll on blackjack....
$2000 bankroll for blackjack is too small...blackjack is even more of a grind than poker
the variance is so high that you were bound to bust out with your bankroll in most places...as a rule of thumb, for a weekend of play of about 20 hours your should have 50 big bets, and do not put out your big bet until the count is +3 TC using hi/lo, or when you have a +ev over 1%...you need to look at risk of ruin information... with $2000 as your stake you would have $40 as your top bet, so you can play only low limit games as you need to spread from $5 to $40 to have a chance to beat the game...perhaps only in Reno/Tunica could you find enough good low limit/single deck games to play with your bankroll. Shoe games would require you to spread more to beat them, and i don't think your bankroll could take that for long... blackjack takes a bigger bankroll than poker...stay away from blackjack, particularly the Vegas Strip games, until you have over $10,000 in your bankroll...read stuff by Arnold Snyder if you want to do blackjack |

All been there. Learn. Stay away from house games. Unless you are a professional card counter with a large roll and disguises, you don't stand a chance.
