Default NL100: 4bet pot with 99, flop line

New to NL100, so go easy on me if this is simple.

Not been at table long but villain seemed fairly aggro, 3betting a fair amount, but none went to showdown. He's no maniac though, i.e. he can laydown a hand. Hero has been tight, only showing down one hand where I got stacked with top two with AT on a monotone board against an uberLAG who flopped the flush.

Bodog NL100, 6 max hero has $120, villain in BB covers

Hero is MP with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

1 fold, Hero raises to $4, 3 folds, villain raises to $13.5, Hero raises to $30, villain calls

Flop ($60.50)

J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Villain checks, Hero???

I 4bet pre as I thought with my image I had a decent amount of FE, and I can safely fold to a shove. Was surprised by his call. I assumed he had QQ+ here.

Just wondering whether a check or half pot bet is best here. If he has KK+ or JJ, surely all the money is going in anyway, but if he has a big ace or should I give him a free card and let him bluff the turn?

I think you have to bet this. Villian has already invested a load so isn't going to want to fold. No A/K on board means JJ/QQ are still happy to go broke, he probably doesn't think you have a J either so TT may stack off here.

You've got $90 behind now so stick $30 into $60 now and it'll be $60 into $120 on the turn which he will struggle to fold.

Any bet other than a push will look strong, he will widen your range and hopefully try to make a hero call.

very standard bet. from what i remember of these limits ppl will call 4bets too light and the spewy ones love to make moves in the face of perceived weakness. bet a bit over half pot and let him do something really dumb w AQ or whatever else he has.

also, i hate your preflop 4bet. why would you want to turn a hand this strong into a bluff. you have position, just see a flop and take it from there. it really sucks if you 4bet and the villain decides to push AK-AJ or even 88 and you have to fold.

Clearly just bet out the flop and hope he is trapping with Aces or kings
I really hate your 4 bet pf, you just turn your hand into a bluff. Calling or folding is much better.

I agree with djshawk, 30 on flop then the rest on the turn. He should have a very big hand.

But your 4-bet preflop is pretty bad, it should be a call or a fold, probably leaning towards a fold. It's rare that the villain is smooth calling a 4-bet, and as said above, this means you're turning your hand into a bluff.

don't like pf, now that you get lucky make your std CB and hope for a shove.

Thanks guys. Agree that the 4bet is probably bad, as I suck at playing 99/TT/JJ in reraised pots when overs appear and I don't know if villain is the type to double barrel AK.

Anyways, I bet half pot and villain folded, guess he didn't have an overpair.

Don't 4bet pf. As played I'd probably check it and hope to get to showdown against AK.
