Roy's scenario, though a long shot, is what keeps me from helping the kid in this situation. The long shot is just tooooo scary in today's pedo-scared society. I got crapped on by a bird on my roof as I walked out of my house today after a 250BB down swing. I can't afford to take these chances.

The problem is, after following my paranoid logic, this happens:

Child walks over to dad with pissed pants and explains that I didn't help him with his belt. Father thinks I'm an jerk and probably a pedo in the same way that someone might think that a homophobe is a homosexual: There's something weird about me for feeling so weird about helping a kid out with something as innocuous as a stuck belt. In any event, the guy will feel uncomfortable around me from here on out.

The scenario is pretty much a catch 22, but the implications of scenario 1 are far too scary. I'm not worried about a misunderstanding with Joe Dad, but rather with the witch hunt that's going on in the U.S.

I do feel very guilty not standing up for what I feel is standard polite behavior in all instances, but the consequences are too high. I'll let some other poor cuss suffer society's wrath in their obsession and hopefully in doing so they'll realize they've gone too far.

I grab any adult nearby before helping the kid. Stuff like this goes really really bad really fast.

God only knows what story the kid makes up if something awkward happens and he's in that attention phase

i mean, say the dad walks in as the guy is undoing his son's pants. dad says "what the hell is going on here?", guy says.. oh your son asked me for help. son backs up story. i mean it's totally believable. does it really make sense that a pedophile is gonna be undoing a kid's pants for sexual purposes in the bathroom of a wedding? i mean he knows people are going to be coming in and out. not like they were together in a stall.

Thats the best case scenario.

The worst case scenario is as follows:

Drunken dad walks in the bathroom, he immediately flips out and starts beating on you.

"Get off my son you [censored]!!"

Him and his buddies beat you senseless until the police arrive.

He tells the judge he saw you performing oral sex on his son. The kid is too frightened to tell the truth. The DA and dad coach/trick the kid to corroborate with the dads story.

Your friends and family all think you are a monster.

You're sentenced to 15 years in prison. The inmates all know what you did.

"You like little boys do you? I have a couple of boys at home you sick [censored]! Let me show you what it feels like!!"

You get savagely beaten and or raped at least once a week for the next ten years. Nobody cares.

When you get out you have to register as a sex offender. You can't find work. You can barely sustain yourself. The cheapest apartment for rent is next door to a school. You move in and make the 6 O'clock news the next night. You're constantly pestered by the neighbors.

You're out at a local bar one night drinking away your troubles. The kid is there and recognizes you. He doesn't remember anymore what happened in the bathroom that fateful night. He now believes you actually molested him.

He follows you out of the bar that night and when you get close to the trees he hits you over the head with a club, drags you into the woods and castrates you with a dull butter knife.

Unfortunately you survive the ordeal and live out the rest of your life with no money, no friends and no balls.

Anybody still help the kid? [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

lawyers [censored] your country up pretty good.

well and scared people are easier to control

seriously how can you not help a little kid from pissing his pants. it really makes me shiver

edit 2: a few years ago there was a case of a little boy (~8 years old) being accused of molesting his little sister whle helping her taking a piss in the yard or somewhere. just to emphasize how crazy your country is. and to show that i understand that you are scared of helping a little kid to open his belt. still totally crazy and [censored] up. you are made into heartless mother- [censored]

It's absurd, and I know it's absurd but as a case in point I was taking care of family friends kids, with my nephew. And the little girl apparently told her parents that I kissed her and felt her up. She was like six, the mother wanted to kill me, thank god the father knew me better.

Apparently the girl had seen some romance movie and decided to reenact it in a story.

So yea, I'm a bit paranoid, that's different from fear, it's cya.

kids lie. i think i was 11 or 12 and playing wiffle ball in the backyard with my friends. the neighbor kid, who was proly 6 or 7 was hangin out with us. not sure what happened, but for some reason he told his dad that i had punched him. i remember being quite scared that i would get in serious trouble but the adults read him for bs i guess.

its possible he was angry that we wouldnt let him play with us.

I really have no idea what I would have done if in this situation. I hope I could just man up and help the poor kid, but I can also understand the "it's either you or me kid and it ain't gonna be me, sorry" mentaility.

the real sadness here is that you are reduced to being a cold SOB who can't help out a little kid out of fear of something looking wrong. think how things may look but also look back to when you were 5-6 and were just starting to be thought of as a "big boy" and not a baby. How horrified would you be if you pissed yourself in front of all these people. If I was in my friend's situation and had to look at the terror in this kid's eyes as he struggles not to piss himself, I don't know if I could have just stood back and let him do it.

Over-zealous housewives and the media that pander to their irrational fear make me sick.

Well, you seem to be pandering to that fear as well. And I doubt that these particular fears are restricted to (or even necessarily dominated by) women.

Yes, I am. Because you're an idiot to ignore it. That doesn't make it right.

restricted, no. dominated by, yes.
