Small pocket pair blind defense
This is a standard situation in which I probably played terribly.
CO is quite loose and reasonably aggressive preflop, can't say too much about his postflop play at this point and I haven't been HU with him before. 5max 1/2 Hero is BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Preflop: Laggy CO open raises, folded to Hero who calls. Flop (4.5 SB): 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero checks, CO bets, Hero raises, CO 3-bets, Hero calls. Turn (5.25 BB): 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Hero? Call-down bog standard, on the chance he was 3-betting the flop with AK or somesuch? |

Whats the purpose with the flopraise? [/ QUOTE ] Value mainly, plus protection and info. Is that not a pretty good flop for me? I figure I'm ahead a lot of the time, but I'd also like him to fold. I do this pretty often, so if it's clearly wrong it's a significant leak. |

What are you trying to get protection from?
I can understand raising it for value since the flop is a good one for your hand. |

[/ QUOTE ] Protection as in create some fold equity on the turn against his possible 6-outer. Though I suppose that even if he knew he had 6 outs he would still be wrong to call the turn, but I still think there's value. |

Whats the purpose with the flopraise? [/ QUOTE ] I like the raise. First, the paired board makes it less likely that the flop hit the opponent. Second, the preflop raiser usually has big cards. We have a rag flop. We are usually ahead. The PFR will make a continuation bet here most of the time so the check raise maximizes our ev. I call the turn and call any non Ace or King river. |

Re: Small pocket pair blind defense
Check-call down from there is a good standard now that the pot is bloated. I like the check-raise on the flop as for the most part he has 6 outs so I like to take the lead in the hand and bet turn and river and hope he doesn't spike one of his overcards. Ace high will show down a lot here.
As played if he checks the turn then I am betting almost any river for value. |
