Just quit using crappy instant messaging services. Use GoogleTalk instead. Problem solved, yw.

edit: Oh yeah. And then set up Pidgin Portable from http://portableapps.com/ for your GTalk account. And your AIM, ICQ, MSN and whatever accounts. Works like a charm.
