Can I fire a third barrel here? Please???

I said that I would check it, but being a new player a hand like this is confusing for 4 reasons.

1. I would think flush or straight draw because of the board.
2. Small pocket pair, slow playing a set.
3. If he hit with any of these why isnt he firing.
4. What does he think I have.

It's 50/50 check or bet depends on who you are, if you check and he bets????????? There pot committed.
