villain is probably a decent tag. i don't have any history with him but his stats are 30/20/2.5/37/907. should i call this river as a default?

If you dont know what to do on the river, you should be checking the turn.

i often see this idea stated in various forms and i couldn't disagree more. me not knowing what to do on the river simply means that i estimate the EV of calling to be almost equal to the EV of folding. this fact has nothing to do with whether i should be betting the turn where i'm a decent equity favorite against his estimated range.

Checking behind is good when he has no club or has a made hand. I'd expect him to fastplay any flopped made hand, so we're looking at 9x pretty much.

Betting is good when he has a club that wouldn't bluff the river or will put in a bluff check/raise or has a hand like Ax with a club that might call 2 more bets. I also think betting is good for future hands, since if you're like me you have alot of weak showdownable hands when you check behind turns.

I can see merits to both checking behind and betting the turn, as played I'd call the river I think you'll see a busted club often enough.
