Live Questions
I'm used to playing online and have questions about playing live.
1. If you fall below the max buy in how do you reload? 2. Should you announce when you're going to leave the table or can you just leave before the blinds hit you? 3. How does showing cards at showdown work? I've been told if the river is bet its good etiquette for whoever bets it to show first; I thought this was weird. I just thought whoever is first to act (left of the button) to show and if whoever is left in the pot cant beat it they can just muck |

Re: Live Questions
If you want to reload, you can buy chips from the dealer, or you can yell for the chip runner.
When you leave the table, the dealer will deal you out of if you're not in your seat when the hand starts. Some dealers might give you a little leeway if you say "deal me in" but some won't. You don't have to say anything. At showdown, it's not just good etiquette for the bettor to show first on the river, it's the rule. If there has been no action on the river (check check) it depends on the local rules: Some cardrooms say that the first to act must show first here, some cardrooms say that the agressor on the previous streets must show first. |

Re: Live Questions
1)At least in Atlantic City, by pulling cash out of your pocket and placing it in front of your chip stack - dealer converts cash to chips, and you are back in business. Same goes for a rebuy when you get felted.
2)If I have a massive stack, its common etiquette to give a little notice. Generally once the button passes and I'm planning to leave on my blind, I start looking for racks and that's generally sufficient notice for me. 3)If there's a river bet/call, the bettor should show first or at least verbally call the basics of his hand. River check-check its generally whoever thinks they are good - I'll frequently call my absolutely horrible hand if I was in a blind and checked all the way down for humor. |

Re: Live Questions
You browse back through this forum. There are many threads regarding rules at showdown and other nuggets that happen at a live table. It is better to be properly armed with infomation when heading to the casino.

Re: Live Questions
Not only can you muck when you're beat, you should muck. The dealer has to read all tabled hands, and reading a hand that can't beat what's been declared as the winner is annoying and slows down the game.

so at showdown if villain shows and you're beat you can just muck right? [/ QUOTE ] The most important rule is protect your hand. At showdown, this means wait until villain shows both of their cards. If you are sure that their hand beats yours, then muck. If your hand is good, show both cards. (You can still protect it by putting your hand on it.) Only release your cards after the pot has been pushed to you. -Tom |
