25NL, JJ hits a middle set on scary board. Am I a fish for shoving?
Hands like these really get me. I want to learn how to be better playing hands like these:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Button ($46.75) (23/17 - 34 hands) SB ($14.05) BB ($23.35) (25/21 - 25 hands) Hero ($24.90) MP ($38.90) CO ($36.15) Preflop: Hero is UTG with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Hero raises to $1, 2 folds, Button calls $1, 1 fold, BB raises to $3.75, Hero calls $2.75, Button calls $2.75. Hmm... re-raising out of BB means you're on AA-QQ, AKs. As for the button calling my pre-flop raise, then a re-raise, you've got to be on some sort of drawing hand or semi-weak pocket pair: AQs, KQs-JTs, TT, 99 (what do you put this guy's range on?) Flop: ($11.35) J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) BB bets $8.25, Hero raises to $21.15, Button raises to $43, BB calls $11.35 (All-In). Is this an easy laydown? I think I was just blinded by 'omg, I just hit a set' mentality. |

Please don't post results.
If you didn't include the results: push here every time. But you did, so fold... |

I've removed results... why is it that people don't want to see results?

Agreement. Push.
Set-over-set is unlikely. More likely you're up against two pair (like the button had), AK, or a big draw. You're a favorite against all of these. |

Even if you were in position and had the button push in front of you, you still probably have good enough pot odds to call that.

Re: 25NL, JJ hits a middle set on scary board. Am I a fish for shoving
fold pf. set mining with JJ = usually a bad idea. if you're going to play it, repop pf. you read him for AA-QQ or AK, all of which dominate you or you are flipping against, so you fold or repop, nothing else. think of it this way; if you have 33 here, what do you do? fold? why, because you're probably dominated and are set mining? same concept.

*grunch*
I'd probably smooth call flop hoping to pair rather then raising. As played call. |

*grunch* I'd probably smooth call flop hoping to pair rather then raising. As played call. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think that's a good idea. What do you think you are behind on this flop, AQ? If a villain is behind and improves on the turn, they beat you. If they are already ahead of you with top set, you have one out. Any A, Q, or [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (that doesn't pair the board) on the turn will suck for you, both because you might get drawn out on and because an opponent with KT or a pair + straight draw will be afraid of the scary board and might not pay you off. Get the money in on the flop and make them pay. |
