Too Hard to Tell, But Probably Not [/ QUOTE ] The shot from the 3rd base line is the one that I think gives the best angle and every time I see it I become more and more convinced he didn't touch home. I was very surprised that they sent him on such a shallow fly considering that there were no outs. Hell of a finish to a great game. |

[ QUOTE ] Seriously, this is like Red Sox fans cursing Buckner's name until 2004. [/ QUOTE ] lol, or absolutely nothing like it at all. [/ QUOTE ] let's see.. one's a blown call, one's a blown routine play. one is being talked about 30 minutes after it occurred, the other got talked about for 18 years. Apt analogy, IMO. |

... who the [censored] cares? seriously, if padres fans are going to cry foul about this call, please remember that you guys blew 3 chances to lock this [censored] up, rockies won 14 out of the last 15 to even have a chance at this game, padres ace gave up 6 (SIX!) runs, they came back from an 8-6 deficit against a HOF reliever (albiet, he chokes a lot), and last but not least.. EVEN IF HE IS OUT, THERE IS 1 OUT AND A GUY ON SECOND IN A TIE GAME. So, no, this did not cost you the game. Quit crying. Seriously, this is like Red Sox fans cursing Buckner's name until 2004. [/ QUOTE ] Does anyone else think Holliday shouldn't have tagged up here? That ball didn't seem deep enough to justify tagging with no outs. |

I have no idea what the probability numbers are, but I would venture to guess running there is +EV. Put outs at home are rare, and you've got Helton advancing to second even if they get you. Pretty sure it's the right decision.
And even if it's not, all of your friends would call you a pussy ass fagboy for the rest of your life if you held him up. |

The ball got out to Giles so quickly, he really didn't have a chance to set and wasn't able to throw with his momentum towards the plate. Not sure if Holliday or the 3rd base coach were considering these things.
Was anyone surprised they didn't walk the bases loaded? |

I don't know much about Giles OF abilities, but I'll presume he and the 3rd base coach knew. I doubt they run on Vlad there. Not sure of the expectancy for 1st and 3rd, 1 out, but I'd guess running was the better play on a non-stud OF arm. |

Walking the bases loaded sucks since a walk loses the game.
Playing infield in the force doesn't help that much. P(walk) or P(bad pitching when afraid of walk) > P(needing the force out) Tagging up is close and depends on hitters behind them. Also since Jamey Carrol sucks he will hit a lot of weak balls. Which give them a play at the plate. |
