Define "worse"
In terms of which collapse causes more pain to the fanbase, it's choking in the playoffs, because it's in the playoffs. In terms of which collapse is more pathetic, it's the regular season choke. The Mets couldn't buy a win against the Nats or Fish. The Yankees lost four straight games to an excellent Sox team, which is going to happen from time to time. |

As a life long Angels fan I've experienced both of these.
They are both bad. It's like asking "Which is worse to be poked in the eye with a pointy stick or a plastic fork??" |

I would say the odds of Mets collapse was less likely than the Yankees collapse.
However, the change in probability of winning the World Series was much more for the Yankees, so I would rank Yankees losing 4 straight as worse. |

[/ QUOTE ] this is the perfect answer the mets collapse from an odds standpoint was astronomical. But it was slowly but surely and most mets fans gradually saw it coming and were not shocked by the end. the sting of the yankees sox chokejob must have hurt much much more |

So, you're saying that Yanks fans didn't anticipate losing Game 7, but Mets fans anticipated Moyer winning and Glavine giving up 7 runs to a terrible Marlins team, and basically not scoring?
That after the Mets blew the lead, then retied it with one game left, there was no hope? LOL. |

Naj,
I think you are reading too much into metsandfins comments. If anything most Mets fans were probably surprised that the last game even mattered. I don't see where he said that we didn't have any hope that they would pull it out. I did. All that said...believe it or not, watching them lose yesterday was not surprising to us given the way the team played the last 3 weeks. It could have gone either way and we all knew that and we were all well prepared for it. I can't say what Yankees fans were thinking prior to game 7, but that's how most Mets fans felt yesterday. |

[/ QUOTE ] 100% correct The Yanks losing 4 straight is worse due to the circumstances surrounding it from the perspective of the fans and teams. But objectively, the Mets choke job this season was the worst. |

The Yankees was clearly the greatest collapse in professional sports playoff history.
