Princeville at Hanalei - The Prince Course
#1 - nice, easy opening hole. As long as you don't hit it left. Or right. Or short. Or Long. #6 - the green overlooks Hanalei Bay #7 - The drop area gets a lot of play #12 - One of two holes with "Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Signature Tees"...there is a 10-story drop from the tips and the green is carved right out of the jungle. #15 green seen from #16 tee with Bali Hai (from South Pacific) in the background |

Poipu Bay, Koloa, HI - This is the home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, a silly season event that runs this year in October.
5th green 6th tee, looking back towards the 9th green #8, a short par 4 playing back towards the coast (I was +1 when I teed off here, and +4 after putting out ) 16th fairway 16th green, with my approach that would be a lipped-out birdie putt |

How did you like Bear Mountain? I'm up there in 2weeks for my 2nd time this year. [/ QUOTE ] I thought it was beautiful. I think the back 9 played easier and was prettier, but really the whole course was pretty great. Some of the greens--notably on the par 3's--are ridiculously big and breaky. I played fine. Prob 5-6 shots worse than I usually do but that makes sense considering it's very tough to recover there and I'm not the best player anyways. The blind shots were a bit annoying, but the GPS in the cart marked all the hazards and legnths to them which isn't something I'd seen. Overall I loved it. Its probably the first "high-end" course I've played--I have enough trouble on normal courses--but I enjoyed it immensely. All day I kept thinking "This course isn't so tough if you hit good shots." (As an aside, I didn't need the 1.5 boxes of balls you recommended. 5-6 per round seems plenty.) |

Re: The Golf Course Photo Thread
LOL, I only said that half-jokingly It's just one of those courses that if you hit an errant shot, the ball's gone...but you're right that the back plays SO much easier (and flatter) than the front. What'd you think of 17? Feel tempted to hit one over to 11?
Oh, and my uncle lost 5 balls on 11, LOL. |

What'd you think of 17? [/ QUOTE ] par-par, second day came at the expense of a trap that tried to [censored] with me but I showed the trap who's boss 11 is easy. Just hit it straight. I should also note through all of this that the course probably plays differently from the tips. I did not play from the tips. I am a 17. (trending towards a 6) But, yeah, usually when I hit a bad shot I can get back in play--except at the UBC course which I played a few days earlier and had 15 or so chip-back-into-play-cuz-you're-right-behind-a-tree type things. The Bear tends to take your errant shots. Finding it is awesome. Recovering is impossible. Before last weekend I'd never played northwest golf before. The trees are huge! Back home (NYC), when I drive the ball and hit a tree, I'm hitting the top of the tree. At those courses, you're hitting the middle of the trees which is sick for a high ball hitter like me. Its nice though cuz a ton more balls pop out. 13 pissed me off on day 2. I smashed a drive just a bit too far left of line and caught the drink. I think 13 is an awesome hole though. |
