Burma: updates from sources on the inside
Burmese public internet access is now cut and news is slow to get to the borders and out via external phone signals from China/Thailand/India.
Blog and indymedia reports linked below (similar content, same author); both include links to the best resistance news sources and the latest situation - they will be updated as news comes through. http://thinkwell-daz.blogspot.com/ https://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007...?c=on#comments The Embassies in Burma can help by making WIFI access freely available to all. Please e-mail/phone to request their help and pester Foreign/State Offices at home. Thanks. |

Plenty of oil though - even if they don't sell it to you lot. European protests are centred on Total Oil stations.

[/ QUOTE ] LOL!!! Just exactly what influence do you think your jumped-up little spendthrift nation has? China and India could send you back to the stone ages just by cutting off the money supply. No troops needed. Laura did a fine job - the first political figure in the West to link in China and the Olympics to the crisis, and her analysis was good. But your naive belief in a corrupt undemocratic autocrat is naive beyond belief. |

? I don't think he said that the US has tremendous influence over Burma. What he said was quite correct I think.

You are correct in mentioning that China and India are the key factors in this situation, and their refusal to pressure the Myanmar regime has contributed enormously to its longevity. |

Just exactly what influence do you think your jumped-up little spendthrift nation has? [/ QUOTE ] We buy some pretty impressive toys with that money: Also, when you talk about "cutting off the money supply", you're talking about destroying the global economy. Its economic mutually assured destruction. |
