You shoulda got a lawyer . . . they are fairly cheap for these sorts of things and you end up paying the lawyer about what the fine would have been, but with no points/moving violations on your record. They usually plead to a non-moving violation and win.

In Cali, you can have a 'trial by written declaration' and have the case dismissed by the judge if he sides with you. If the judge sides with the officer, you can have up to one re-trail. Read the back of your ticket for all details.
