"How could you leave Lester off?"
What purpose would he serve? He won't get a start and, to my knowledge, there's been zero talk about him coming out of the pen. |

Clay has been shutdown [/ QUOTE ] I thought I had heard he was done for the year, but I thought maybe they meant for the regular season. |

clay's got a dead arm, no way they pitch him and risk [censored] up next season when he could easily be a ROY candidate.
anyone who is excited about the prospect of using lester out of the bullpen is as dumb as dan shaughnessy's pet rock. |

This is [censored] horrible. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseb...80298436_x.htm [/ QUOTE ] call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think there's a chance they wanted to shut him down due to innings, and didn't want a rebellion in the fan base if they were percieved to be choosing to shut him down, or choosing to not pitch him instead of other guys. said another way: they wanted to shut him down, and they made an announcement to make it seem like there was no choice but to shut him down. otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to announce this now now, when there are still 3+ weeks to go before a potential WS. that's plenty of time to rest dead arm/fatigue - unless the larger factor of total IP was in play. |

[/ QUOTE ] I wasn't talking about the longterm health of his arm. I was talking about the Red Sox's chances of winning the 2007 WS. Buchholz, to me, is clearly a better option than Wakefield or Lester. |
