Re: Turned combo draw with T9s
Check behind on the turn. Try and hit one of your outs. Its unlikely he is folding given those stats and the board. You are never pushing this guy of a Q...maybe not even 55.

And your draw is not that big, with a gutshot and a FD on a paired board [/ QUOTE ] I turned an open ender and a set is very unlikely. QQ most likely 3bets pre and 88 is only one combo. 77 is possible, but also may fold the flop |

Re: Turned combo draw with T9s
I disagree with the "check the turn" crowd. Betting this turn is perfectly acceptable under these circumstances for a few reasons:
1. You've still got $42.80 behind and the pot has $10.50. If you hit your outs, you'll have a much easier time winning a huge pot if you had bet the turn. You might even be able to get all-in on the river, which is an impossibility if you don't bet the turn. 2. You disguise your hand extremely effectively. Your hand looks like a queen right now -- when you hit your flush or straight on the river, villain won't see it coming, and you'll make far more money as a result. 3. You've got folding equity. You bet preflop and bet the flop. OK, SB might be testing to see if that was a continuation bet. Often people who call a c-bet are hoping to see "just one more card" to see if they can catch lucky, or to see if you were really serious about your hand. Hands like JJ or even 33 might float the flop, but when you fire again on the turn they realize that you've definitely got the Q and they fold. Your line up until now is very consistent with strength; villain's is very consistent with weakness. Having him fold this turn is not a great crime. So: you semibluff. Sometimes you get villain to fold, sometimes he calls and you catch a lucky card on the river, getting an even bigger payoff because of the disguise your hand gained from the turn bet. In either case, you've got some good reasons to bet this turn. I'm not saying that checking behind is automatically wrong -- with opponents who are calling stations, a check behind is optimal. However, we don't have any information about this particular opponent's tendencies to call down (or lack thereof), so betting the turn is usually a good play. (Incidentally, if SB had folded the turn I don't think as many people would consider your turn bet a bad play. ) |
