Re: What sports moment made you the happiest/saddest?
[ QUOTE ]
Duke-Md 2001: if memory serves, I think Duke got the lead down to single digits at half. The final score wasn't close, so I'm not sure why there is whining about the refs. [/ QUOTE ] My memory wasn't too specific, but I just checked the game info and MD was up by 11 at half. Duke got its first lead of the game with 6:48 to play, and if you're saying there wasn't an issue with the refs youre just being a huge homer, even the play by play guys were screaming about how awfully the game was being officiated in favor of Duke. Saying that 11 points "is not close" in an MD-Duke game is completely retarded, because they can trade runs like that in as little as 2 minutes (even less if you have Jason Williams). Also considering that the refs were calling ticky-tack fouls on Baxter all 2nd half (his 5th foul was just a completely awful call), it's not hard to see how they lost by 11. The officiating was god awful, were you paying attention? "Wasn't close"? L-O-L |

Re: What sports moment made you the happiest/saddest?
I was too busy cheering on the historic comeback. And yes I am a huge homer. Of course, is it possible that the refs have been responsible for all of Duke's success? I hear the same complaint about every single big game Duke has won in the past 15 years, so I tend to be skeptical.

[/ QUOTE ] I dont wanna hijack the thread, but I tried to take that into account when forming my opinion. I know as a Duke fan you hear that a ton, and I know as a MD fan I say it a ton, but i'm being as objective as I possibly can in saying that I couldn't believe the fouls that were being called in the game, specifically the 2nd half. I remember thinking "I know I say that they get a lot of BS calls, but really this is just another level". Not that that proves anything, but aren't the foul differentials between the two teams over the past couple years completely enormous? I don't know where to find it currently, but maybe can dig it up; perhaps from truthaboutduke.com (joking)? |

Re: What sports moment made you the happiest/saddest?
High is a tie:
1) 2005 Orange Bowl. Was at the game and very nervous beforehand. Both the USC and Oklahoma fans expected a close game. By halftime, USC had demolished the Sooners - it was so surreal it felt like a drug high. 2) 2005 USC / ND game. My chest / heart hurt for a few days from the last-minute trauma. The 4th & 9 play, Leinart's bootleg & fumble, thinking USC had lost, going for the win instead of the tying field goal, then the euphoric pandemonium. Damm that was sweet. Worst: 1992, my senior year at USC. Georgia Tech forward James Forrest hits a turnaround 3 at the buzzer to beat USC in the NCAA tournament. It was the only 3 he made all year. |
