Default pocket pair debate

please help settle a debate.

first hand of sng, you have 55 in middle-early position. everyone at your table is really bad. limp? why, why not? and if the button raises to 100, call? why, whynot?

Limping is fine. Calling probably isn't, but it depends on starting stacks and number of callers. You probably shouldn't be set mining for more than 5% of your stack in a sng.

If it's not raised, then I would limp and fold to a raise behind me. If there is a raise in front, I fold. I don't like set mining for more than the minimum in the first few levels. You just don't flop sets often enough to profitably set mine for 100+ chips every time.

well in my limited experience, bad players at the $5-10 buyins rarely let a flop hit without raising. only about 150 games though. do you really think % wise u see a flop enough times without it being raised AND hit a set AND they hit something good enough to get stacked that limping is still ok? i just cant like the play myself.

It is obviously table and opponent specific. If it is an aggro table, than folding is probably best.

But, in my experience at the low levels people don't raise enough and when they do they stack off with TP or worse.

In $5-10 sngs bad players that raise behind you will often underbet making it 2x/3x/4x the BB, a few players may call and you will have correct odds to play the hand even if it is raised. I think set mining actually works best in small raised pots.
