I'm guessing you are going to lose this. If he was eager to get action from you on this, he probably has it in the bag. [/ QUOTE ] Many people take the gallon of milk challenge with huge confidence too. Doesn't mean they have any idea of what they can actually handle. |

Re: 1000 push-ups in 4 hours
I nearly completed the gallon of whole milk in an hour challenge. Less than 1 cup away with 5 minutes to go.
Re: the 1000 push up challenge. I think it can be done. I'd bet that I could do it. Back when I used to not work on Sundays, I'd make myself do 2 push ups and 2 sits up for every minute of football that I watched. In 4 hours that would come to 480 pushups and sit ups. It was a work out, sure, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't so fatigued that I couldn't have done double that number and then 40 more to get to 1000. |

Re: 1000 push-ups in 4 hours
1000 isn't that crazy. Given his height/weight/benchstats I'd take him up on the bet here, but it's not as improbable as you might think.
5'10" // 185 // 8% bodyfat // 330 1RM // 185 x 18-20 I'd take myself laying 2:1. |

Re: 1000 push-ups in 4 hours
um 4 pushups a minute is a joke. But for someone who weighs 185, it *might* be difficult. 1000 in two hour would actually require *some* training, but not a lot. 1000 in one hour would require a lot more training, but definitely not super difficult by any standard.

do you guys not remember apathy betting he could do 1000 in 24hrs and failing? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but you cannot really compare the two (and Irieguy won the same bet). It would be like saying "You remember that guy who did like 8 thousand* in an hour, this guy has four whole hours to do one eighth of the push ups, LOCK!" *I think the record was more, but I am too lazy to look it up. I don't know if he can or he can't, but 1000 push ups in four hours is not like running a four minute mile, it is like being able to get through a half marathon: lots of people can do that if they have trained for it. Maybe the guy is just some moron who talked himself into believing it was easy, or maybe he knows exactly what he is capable of and this is a sucker bet. IN ANY CASE: it's like what? a $50 bet, so this needs to happen and we need results. edit - just reread OP and he did already take the bet, but we have to wait until sunday for the results. I hate waiting. |

[/ QUOTE ] There was a thread about this competition in the health and fitness forum a while back. It was 500 in 2 hours and I spouted off that it would be easy, seeing how you would only have to do about 4 a minute. I ended up trying it and completed it in 112 minutes. I was hoping to do 5 a minute for 100 minutes without any breaks, but I ended up taking 2 five minute breaks and one 2 minute break. My first break came in after completing almost 400 pushups. FWIW, that is where it became really difficult for me. I'm 5'8" 170lbs and don't do pushups regularly and probably could only bench my body weight one time. I do think 1000 in 4 hours is a much tougher challenge though. |

Re: 1000 push-ups in 4 hours
ill say the same thing i said in the other thread. about 2 weeks ago ny 20 year old friend who is probably about 170 and in fairly good but not awesome shape did 760 pushups in an hour and 2 minutes. he was only able to do it because of his strategy, which has to do sets of 2 with 5 second breaks in between. given this info 1000 in 4 hours is not a problem if the guy has the right strategy.
EDIT - if people do not beleive me, I am willing to lay 10-1 odds for any amount of money I have that my friend can do this, I will videotape the whole thing for proof. |
