400nl: Confession: I suck at 3bet pots. Please help!
Ive decided that Im happy with my game its just I REALLY suck in 3bet flops. I end up either just putting villians on the strongest possible hands and playing like a pussy or just closing my eyes and shoving in not knowing where Im at. So Ive decided to post a few 3bet hands so I can get some help:
hero is TAG for all hands. Hand 1: Villian is 22/17/3 reg (no other reads) Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) MP ($422.20) Hero ($582.40) Button ($394) SB ($99.60) BB ($818.10) UTG ($658.40) Preflop: Hero is CO with 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 1 fold, MP raises to $16, Hero raises to $52, 3 folds, MP calls $36. Flop: ($110) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) MP checks, Hero ??? Easy cbet? Then fold to a raise or ch down unimproved if called? Hand 2: Villian is 51/13/0.7 Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) SB ($520.20) Hero ($530.40) UTG ($394) MP ($97.60) CO ($810.10) Button ($616.40) Preflop: Hero is BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 3 folds, Button raises to $12, 1 fold, Hero raises to $46, Button calls $36. Flop: ($98) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, Button checks. Turn: ($98) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks (???) Flop just hits sooo many hands, and given his AF he isnt folding much anyways. Plan was to just check it down unless I improved. Is this ok? If he bets flop after I check to him, does anyone CR here? I dont like cc here, but does anyone advocate that? Hand 3: Villian is 18/14/4 reg. I have 3bet him a few times in the last 3 orbits (last couple times have been with good hands like this). Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Button ($436.50) SB ($970.72) Hero ($740.20) UTG ($414.50) MP ($400) CO ($398) Preflop: Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 3 folds, Button raises to $12, 1 fold, Hero raises to $44, Button calls $34. Flop: ($94) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Final Pot: $94 Standard bet/get it in spot? Hand 4: Villian is 14/10/3 Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) BB ($400) UTG ($492.10) MP ($503.30) Button ($238.29) Hero ($396) Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 1 fold, MP raises to $14, Button calls $14, Hero raises to $68, 1 fold, MP calls $54, Button folds. Flop: ($154) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero ??? Cbet or not? I thought this was a cf but we'll see what everyone else thinks. Thanks alot to everyone who has read this, and please respond as like I said Im struggling alot with these type of hands. Any coment at all appreciated. Also - are there any good resources I should look up about playing 3bet pots? Edit: To convet 3rd hand. |

Re: 400nl: Confession: I suck at 3bet pots. Please help!
Hand #1: I dont mind checking here neccessarly. This works if you have built up a plan where you check with overpairs/AQ/KQ here sometimes to be trappy. The problem with betting is you are sort of obligated to fold if opp pushes and you lose your opportunity to suck out if you are indeed behind.
Hand #2: Bet out! Bet at least 80$. Call a push. Checking here is handing him the pot and not utilizing your hand. Hand #3: Nothing to say here, you have to bet. Not betting is horrible. Hand #4: This can go either way. Id probably bet here though. Maybe half pot so you can get away from a raise. |

Re: 400nl: Confession: I suck at 3bet pots. Please help!
1. bet
2. bet small on flop the way you played i check turn, you cant really represent anything 3. most of the time i bet, but sometimes check to get a little tricky and avoidin beeing checkraised w/ some crazy hands which can put me into a tough decision. 4. check, you reraised too big preflop.. and he calls, he has to have to some kind of hand, if you decide to make a small bet he calls, his hand was good enough to call this big rereaise pre, so he can easily call a weak bet on the flop. |

Re: 400nl: Confession: I suck at 3bet pots. Please help!
I think when you are 3betting the most important thing is to knowing your opponent.
1. How agressive is he? You dont want to reraise a really passiv player too much preflop and betting the flop too often w/ nothing 2. What hands they call a reraise with? If he raising a lot and calling a lot of reraises you want to 3betting more and betting the flop most of the time. 3. How tricky are they ? Maybe they just calling your rereaises w/ big pairs hoping to trap you. If you makes a 3bet you have to check more flop. etc Your image is important too.. if you makes a lot of reraieses preflop your opponents will realize that, and they will call your reraises and contbets more lightly. |

[ QUOTE ] u would probably be INFINITELY more comfortable if u stopped 3betting so often too much [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Yes, lets not 3bet anything but QQ+, AK. Thats a very solid option, and not very exploitable either! /Sarcasm Guys, these are relatively standard 3bets, there is no issue there. I could make this real easy for myself and only 3bet top 3% hands but Im actually trying to improve as a player rather than grind ssnl for the rest of my life. Thx |
