Re: Eastern Promises
Just saw it today. Was way too slow paced. The story was not very interesting and way too predictable; fake Russian accents are annoying:/

Re: Eastern Promises
[ QUOTE ]
The problem with special effects like that is so few people know what a deep cut or a frozen finger snip looks like that it doesn't matter how "real" it looks, it's still going to look fake. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe. But that doesn't mean this wasn't one of the worst ways they could have done it. I don't think it would have looked less fake if they chopped off the finger of a blow up doll. |

Re: Eastern Promises
Ok stabn, we understand you don't think it should win any awards for special effects. Most people who see it won't care.

Re: Eastern Promises
I thought it was really good. I have no idea what a sliced open throat looks like and how the movie showed it looked entirely possible to me. I also dont know any Russians, therefore am unable to distinguish a real accent from a fake one, so no problems there for me either.
Viggo is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. |

Re: Eastern Promises
How did it compare to "A History of Violence" Cronenburg and Mortenson's previous project?

Re: Eastern Promises
I thought it was about as good as AHOV. I found the special effects believable, but then again I don't know what cutting a frozen finger really looks like.
Did anyone else think that Viggo in full shades-and-suit getup looked an awful lot like Ed Harris' character from AHOV? Same smirk, same weathered face. |

Re: Eastern Promises
OK, the resemblance isn't as strong as I thought, but I think they're wearing the same shades:
Same sucked in expression: Similar smirk: Meh, whatever. |

Re: Eastern Promises
Man, can't believe I missed this. I loved the unashamed immorality of AHOV. That and Viggo f*cking dudes up.
