I think the "us" of the far future will be the AIs. I don't have a problem with that.

Too many crazies praying for the end of the world, and too many people with too many powerful weapons. There is going to be an religious war that will put the world wars to shame, and before it is over every last person in the first world will be dead.

Humanity will probably make it 100 years, but certainly not 1000. Too many bad scenarios.
