Re: Accounting Is Back
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I can't name one person that would rather work at any of those accounting firms over Golman. That list is a joke. [/ QUOTE ] I think the list is meant for companies that undergrads have a realistic chance of being hired at. I don't see the NFL or the NBA on the list either. [/ QUOTE ] I would rather work at any BB IB firm than those three accounting firms, then. |

Re: Accounting Is Back
Most of what has been said in this thread is accurate.
I also gradauated from the aformentioned University. Their emphasis on communication is key. That's what it takes to thrive in the business world. Anyone can learn debits and credits, and that will come easily with experience. As for working for an accounting firm being a great way to start a career, that depends on what you consider great. If you want an insight into how business works and to make good money then they are spot on. That said, the work is very dull, and amount of work that is expected is more than in most other industries. Your success is also based on how much you are willing to work. One of the key performance measures througout the industry is how many hours you work. I've only been in the field for about a year, and I honestly don't really like my job; I am counting the days until I've put in my time and can run for the hills. However, it has been a good experience as far as honing my interpersonal skills and learning about business. A word of advice to those coming out of college: Don't get a job with one of these places unless you want to work. The recruiters will paint a rosey picture and talk about "work/life balance" and how great life is at their firm. The reality is that they will work you as much as you will give and then expect you to give more. I'm not bitter. Really. -Craig |

Re: Accounting Is Back
I currently work 11 hours a day 6 days a week and I am bored as hell on my day off. I cant wait for Sunday to come around. Nothing in life comes to you when you are taking breaks. This is a bad mentality. You have nothing better to do, get after it while you are young. Live to work not work to live.

Re: Accounting Is Back
Any of the accounting majors/accountants out there ever heard of software called ProfitCents?
Its a financial analysis tool that helps accountants explain financial statements to small business owners. Just curious |
