Cheating from the \"Blind\"
Okay, first of all let me say that I am not talking about "blind" as in the position at the table...this guy is really blind. Here is the thing...
One of our local bars holds a weekly poker tourney, it is a very small buy-in ($5 entry...so the money is not the issue), and out of boredom I play from time to time. One of the regulars is a blind kid who likes to play and therefore the bar provides a set of braille cards. The guy in question has someone else shuffle for him, but always insists on dealing the cards himself. I noticed that when it was his deal, he would burn the top card before the action was done and then rub his finger over the top corner of the next card. This seemed odd to me, so after the tourney was over, I felt the top of the card and I could feel the indintations from the braille dots. I raised this concern to the bar staff and word got back to the kid. He was obviously upset at being accused of cheating. We talked about it and he defended himself by saying that it was virtually impossible to do this. He says that because all of the braille "code" is so similar and because he would be reading it upside down and backwards, it would be very difficult to do. The obvious solution would be that when he deals, he doesn't burn the top card until all of the action is completed and we agreed upon this. My question is this; would it really be this hard to do and has anyone else ever encountered something like this? Thanks in advance for any input. |

Re: Cheating from the \"Blind\"
He shouldn't have a brail deck, that is really ridiculous. He should have a reader like that guy in the WSOP

Re: Cheating from the \"Blind\"
The blind guy shouldn't be dealing at all - you should just have someone else deal in his place when it's his button. If there's any chance at all of him reading the back of a card, then the only cards he should touch are his own two.
Aside from that, I think the dealer (even in a player-dealt game) should be responsible for running that hand that he is dealing - making sure bets are right, following the action, pulling in the pot, pushing the pot, etc... It seems like this would be tough to do for someone who is blind. |

Re: Cheating from the \"Blind\"
He's burning the card early and running his finger across the back of the braille markings? Of course he's cheating. Just tell him not to burn the card early. In fact, don't have him deal any cards since they are marked and a skilled braille reader can quickly identify which cards may be in play each time he deals a card.

How does a blind guy pitch cards? [/ QUOTE ] Probably has others at the table slide the cards over. |
