I'm all for the best hand winning the pot. However, in this case the guy mucked his hand, and the pot was pushed. Then a player reaches into the muck, a definite no-no. I don't feel this type of behavior should be allowed, and this player should not get the pot. Although the muck does not posess magical properties, his hand is dead when the pot is being pushed to the last remaining live cards. This is why the dealer is supposed to kill a hand and bury it in the muck so the cards are irretrievable.
