Default Re: Ask TheMetetron about living in or visiting Buenos Aires, Argentin

I don't know your source, but just to confirm I've spent 20 of the last 24 months in Argentina on a tourist visa without a single problem coming in and out (just got back after a month in the UK).

The only way I have heard a tourist can rent long term here is to meet an owner and offer a large deposit and/or 3-12months rent up front. I found a place this way. HOWEVER, Argentines have a penchant for chantas (scams) and the owner still tried to add on a 50% gringo tax to the final 12month price. In the end I backed out.

Have fun in Brazil.

The place I got for my first month kind of sucked in that it was super loud and kind of expensive.
My new place is great. I found it on craigslist and pay $570/mo furnished and am in Recoleta.
Craigslist is a little hit and miss in that some are for further in the future so you need to email many of the listings. But they are not paying agency fees and you deal directly with the owner. Mine is thrilled to have somebody. But maybe I just got lucky.

Sd, any picture of your new place? How long are you planning to live in that apartment?
I'm getting closer to a move but is still trying to get a good picture of how to best get a hold of a reasonable place.

Met,
If I rent a apartment via bytargentina.com for example, do you think one month should be enough to find a better apartment locally? Even with my lacking spanish?

Thanks

You aren't really going to find anything better than using bytargentina if you don't speak spanish except for not paying their 20% finder's fee. The apartment I've had all year has been through them and is one of the nicer buildings/apartments I've seen. I'm not getting this place for much cheaper by sidestepping them and I'm too lazy to bother with that.

don't have pictures, sorry.
i would definitely do just one month in case you don't like it.
i will be here for at least one more month, and if i stay longer i will almost definitely stay in this apartment.

i would agree for the first month to use bytargentina or 4rentargentina, any of those.

i'd also recommend recoleta for your first month (which is where i still am) since it is centrally located.

Default UFC tonite?

Last second, but I am planning on going to the Drink Gallery in Las Canitas to watch the UFC PPV tonite.
They will get it, but we have to cover the price, which is $40 total. I think I have some people already, so should be well less than $10 each (USD).
Event starts at 11, so i'd get there by 10:30. They have big screen tvs there.
Address is: Chenault 1794

PM me if interested
I'll repost here if I end up not going if my friends back out.

how can you not be fluent in spanish metetron? with the money you make from poker if you had any intelligence you would have already offered the hottest (and poorest) argentine girl you met $100 a month (gold to them) + living in your pad with free rent, so she could "help you with your spanish."

No way they refuse 100 bucks + free rent.
