Re: Satellite- No idea how to play this spot
First, you're nowhere near the point where you can sit back and blind your way into the money, so passive play here is a HUGE mistake. You may look close, but this is like jumping the Grand Canyon on a tricycle. The idea of "playing it safe because we're close to the money" will insure that you don't get in the money.
Second, hey Buddy, get your grubby hand off my blinds! If you don't defend with AK, what will you ever defend with???? What do you think will happen next orbit after the guy with 10K in MP see you surrender the blinds? Easy Push. |

It seems like most of the time, when anyone asks what to do on this forum, no matter what the question, most replies say "Shove ! " ... the people on this forum are very clever, and this is a pretty good default position for playing tourneys... [/ QUOTE ] |

Even if you were to fold after the flop. Personally, my results have been getting much better since I stopped over valuing hands like A K and since I started being a bit more selective in my aggression. But, I have been re-considering based on some of your points. so... Push? maybe easy? I don't think so. |

I agree 110% "...Default position in "Tourneys" " I agree 90% (so I guess on average, I agree with you 100%) ;-) This particular Sat FT situation is slightly different IMO. |

You can see the flop and, as one of the other posters said, "Just Play Poker" [/ QUOTE ] getting yourself out of position in a pot 1/5 the size of your stack nearing the bubble of a satellite is pretty much a terrible situation to "just play poker," honestly i don't even know what phrases like these mean, every decision you make is playing poker, im sorry if you don't like it, but often the most important part of tournament play is what happens preflop |

You're giving Villains huge HUGE HUGE odds, almost a freeroll, to have Open Season on you with any semi-playable hand. Yeah, it's so easy to overvalue AK HU against a blind steal. |

Re: Satellite- No idea how to play this spot
Let me see.
We have a top 5% hand He is likely playing a top 30-50% hand 30%-50% of the time he folds to a push and we get $1,100 and people steal less. 50-70% he calls and we are ahead of his range, likely 55-45% or better. meaning 30-35% of the time we can almost coast to seat and people steal less. 25-30% we lose and push bot. Odds of winning a seat drop to 10%...and people steal less. Push>>>>>>>fold(almost never)>>>Calling(never) |

( next to re-re-rereading HOH ) I was told by someone whose play I have tremendous respect for, that one of the best ways to learn is by posting replies here, and seeing what comes back at me, positive or negative. This is one of those cases where the replies have caused me to re-evaluate my thinking. Just one more step on the long, lonely road to UnDonkafication. Thank You. |
