Rake & edge
With my roll on life support after an atrocious run of cards 2 weeks ago, I left my regular headquarters & visited another B&M nearby. I quickly discover the players here are FAR worse than my regular LAP customers. We are talking cold calling 3 bets on the flop with bottom pair, calling raises with 43o, checking the nuts on the river, I am yet to show down a losing hand yet everyone thinks I am a bluffer etc. There is however a catch...the rake is $5 ($4 + jp $1). So we are talking 1BB per decent sized pot.
I ran over the table, but not without a nice run of cards. (I would've left a winner in my HQ too, but not nearly as big of a winner) Now how do you guys feel about this issue. I definetely have greater edge here, does greater rake make it impossible to take advantage of it or should try to stick around here for now? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Rake & edge
You don't mention the rake at your HQ, but I can't imagine it's less than $4. What limit are you playing?
It sounds like the increased edge in the new place will more than offset the increased rake. However, beware of sample size. You could return there next week and find that your recent session was an aberration. |

Re: Rake & edge
It is $4 ($3 + jp $1). The players are bad too, but can lay down middle pairs for 1 raise. Will not chase if it is 2 BB cold to them on the turn. Can read the board well etc.
These new guys (see above) are noticeably weaker and I now have a sample size of 16 hours. |

Re: Rake & edge
Sorry forgot. I play $3-$6. Still....
In this B&M they have a night club (inside the casino) right next to the poker room...The NL games are filled with "just got out of the club metro spiked up hair 21 year olds" who decide to play some 1-3 NL. The NL games must be super juicy there on weekends. |
