Put him on 76 and call. This board isn't all that scary, there's no reason why he should have called you down on 2 streets with a three in his hand, and if he had trips then oh well.

I hate river spots like the one you have here.

I tend to think that maybe if I had bet more earlier in the hand, the decision would be easier.

If you pot the flop and bet more on the turn I think river will be easier.

Flop and turn is fine. I say the river's a fold just from experience. This spot's just a crying call that never seems to be profitable. I wouldn't even try and put him on a hand I would just believe him and move on.
