I've noticed that all marines that I have seen get asked this question always answer cryptically like this. I've never heard someone straight say "yes". Does the military encourage you to answer this way instead of saying "yeah I killed people", or do marines just gain a lot of maturity while over there and independently decide not to give a real answer?

We are by no means forced to not tell the truth when it comes to kills and stuff but to many people its considered really rude. I'm not going to brag about how many people have been killed because when is it ever fun to talk about taking another human beings life? Now I understand that these bastards kill our soldiers daily but its still not appropriate to give exact numbers.

I say just none cause I never killed anyone. Most people I know who have killed people don't talk about it. The people bragging about how many people they killed usually are Admin bitches or cooks or something and never got close to combat.

it seems pretty obvious to me why someone wouldn't want to talk about people they have killed. not only out of respect for their fellow marines but also out of respect for the people they have killed.

at the same time, i wouldn't be suprised if the military was trying to create a similar code of silence for different reasons. if i was running public relations for the military, i really wouldn't want my soldiers talking about much of anything.
