For people who have plenty of funds in their accounts already, what's the rational for requiring an additional deposit to receive the bonus? Fees are incurred on both ends, which seems silly if the deposit will just be withdrawn anyway after 48 hours.

CashTransfer/Moneygram is such an easy way for US players to deposit. If you're using their website to find locations you'll probably have better luck if you leave off the zip code and just enter state and town.

Just used CashTransfer/Moneygram today and took about 30 minutes to get the money into Stars. Aside from the $9.95 fee (which is worth it to get $125 bonus), I think it's a fine transfer method.

MicroBob,

What do you put your chances of getting Elite?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not good. Maybe in the 5% range.
Considering that I estimated my chances at the beginning of the year at around 5% that's not so terrible imo. I'm still not drawing completely dead at least.

If I get to 580k or so by Oct 1 then it would take 140k for each of the last 3 mths for me to make it.
I really doubt I have that in me. Especially with some of the other plans we have before the end of the year that will eat up some days.

Also, the more I try to focus on getting the points the worse I tend to do. I get tired and lose concentration and make some awful freaking mistakes that cost $$.
The big losses partly caused by just playing too long, too tired or too many tables combined with my generally sucky poker abilities make this pretty tough.

If I get to 820k+ by Dec 1 somehow then I suspect the last 31 days of the year will be spent doing a LOT of grinding.

OT I guess, but I agree, and think the poker rooms have to start thinking about this. The days of low fee money movement are gone for the moment at least. The transfer costs to the customers and to the poker rooms may be more than the poker rooms get in increased rake. After all, those who don't have the funds already onsite, and want the bonus, will deposit anyway.

And it's not like the game is BJ, where the more money the customer has onsite, the more they will lose to the casino. If you deposit an additional $600 for the max bonus and lose it all, PS is still only getting a piece of that in rake, not the whole $600 or anywhere near that.

understand some of the points.
But I think Stars and other poker sites do want as much money as humanly possible on the site.
They do earn interest on it I assume and the more they are holding the more interest they are earning obviously.

And there are enough players who intend on grinding out the bonus at .5/1 or something who will then get bored or take their bonus-money to a 3/6 or 5/10 NL table or something crazy.
They can't "take shots" with their funds if they don't have any of it on the site.

I think there might be other ways of doing the bonus stuff. But I also think some of the site's potential motivations may be overlooked somewhat here.

The deposit requirement should be in place for people with less then $2000-2500. People with more then that limit should have the option of just having the bonus.

I play various low to mid stakes and also vary the number of tables I play.
Nothing really specific.
