First, you should convert the hand history.

Second, no, you generally should not slow-play a set on a coordinated board like 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Too many turn cards could promote a weak hand to be better than yours or would kill your action against a weaker hand such as an overpair that would be happy to pay you off on the flop.

Also, he was stealing on the button. If he wasn't stealing and had a hand, he would have had a couple overs or an underpair. With either of these hands, it would have been good to just check, hoping he catches a lesser hand.

Come to think of it, if he would have had a sneaky hand that could draw at that board, he would have called anyways. This is a hand I have had problems with as well, you feel like you just didn't maximize it.

Can someone expound on my thoughts, as well as the OP's?

This illustrates why it would be better to convert the hand. Neither player was on the button. The initial raise was from early position, not close to the button.

Checking wasn't an option, as the preflop raiser bet the flop. The options were to call or raise. Raising looks clear with a strong hand on a coordinated board.

I'm sorry, I meant call.

Can you put him on either overcards or an underpair, making the coordinated board inconsequential? Call would be the stronger option, hoping he catches and you get paid off.

I don't think calling here is good, raising seems like the only way to get paid off an/or avoid letting him catch up cheap. Think about the hands he could have raised with and how it plays out.

AA this is the best scenario for you as you're most likely going to get it all in here by raising him, he'll put you on a draw semi-bluff or maybe even a hand like JJ and will almost always be willing to get it all-in on the flop. If you just call here what happens when the 6h comes on the turn. You opponent will most likely not put another chip in the pot and you lose a great chance to win a big pot.

Also if you just smooth call here there are a lot of scary cards that come on the turn, any heart, 6, or 8 makes it a very dangerous board. Yes your opponent could bluff all his chips off there or you could just as likely go broke if a 6 comes and you let the guy stick around with 88.

The point I'm trying to make is that you're ahead now so try to get as much money in as possible and hope your opponent has something to play back at you with. The only good reason to smooth-call is if you put your opponent on AK and think if an A hits on the turn he could continue betting, other than that you're not making any more money off of him unless he's a hyperaggressive donk.
