A few years ago the Yankees owed me about 600 dollars for unplayed playoff game tickets. I waited for 3-4 months before I called up asking where my money was. A few weeks later the charges were reversed to my credit card. I week later i received a check for 600. A few weeks later I got another envelope and assumed it was a letter asking for the money back-nope more free cash.I natuarally assumed this was reparations for the Jaret Wright signing. All in all i got 8 checks from them over a 4 month span before they stopped coming. If they ever ask for it back Ill inform them that Im left handed and the checks will probably start rolling in again.

Tell them after a few beers, you can throw a perfect game too.

That Patrick Combs story sucks, he comes off like a prima donna toolbox. He didn't even keep the money, he was just a real pain in the ass.

Does anyone remember that (I think) Something Awful thread where a guy got all his job duties taken away but his company forgot to reassign or fire him or anything so he was just doing nothing for several months? That was a good story. Google failed because that is a pretty vague description.

the first half was a good story
the second half sucked
giving the money back was retarded
paying 175 dollars to close an account after giving the bank all of that money was even more retarded

Yeah, totally agree. I thought he seemed like a real attention-seeking douche bag...and wow, he ended up giving back the money? I lost interest part way through the second half of the story and stopped reading. Pretty stupid and lame story if you ask me.

Ethical considerations aside, sooner or later, somebody at the company is going to notice that they screwed up, and they will demand their money back. If you have already spent it, this will be a serious problem for you. Also, there is a distinct possibility that you could be charged for fraud for keeping this money, especially if you are not in a position to pay it back right away.

sooner or later they may notice they screwed up, but they probably won't.

Seriouly... they thought he was employed until April. Unless they talk to a department head specifically about him then they won't ever know that he quit at December.

So he was supposed to work until April and get paid until April, and he did.

I had a friend working at a movie theater in high school. There was a new theater opening up downtown that they wanted him to work at--he didn't want to move. On the day he was supposed to work at the new theater, he stopped showing up.

They kept sending him paychecks for several months that he was cashing.

They never did anything about it except for stop sending him paychecks.

I mean, what would it cost to send him to court/collections over this? I doubt it's much less than £2-3k.

This is not fraud, he did nothing to cause this. It is not your job to inform people that they are giving you money.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wrong.

They will find out and ask for their money back. You will have to give it back.
