Re: Discipline and poker
[ QUOTE ]
My worst indiscipline is thinking "maybe he's bluffing" in the face of a mega river bet rather than taking just one second to think about EV and confirm what my gut already told me - "fold". Two hours of grinding down the drain! [mices ?] [/ QUOTE ] This was, and sometiems still is, my biggest leak. I used to be a pay off wizard, I'd play hours of solid poker and make some good money then pay off huge even when deep down I knew I was beat, sometiems I'd even call his exact hand before pushing the 'call' button. |

Re: Discipline and poker
I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but one key area of discipline is avoiding distractions and maintaining focus. If you are playing live, this means not chatting up the waitress / watching TV, and playing online = NO PORN! Alot of new players fail to focus on the game when they are not involved in a hand.

Re: Discipline and poker
Not trying to get even with someone who sucked out on you. I have seen so many people (myself included) get involved where they shouldn't to do this. If I am in a tourney or sng now, and this happens, I will get up and walk around a little to avoid calling a huge raise by the suckout artist to teach him a lesson. If I am in a cash game, I may change tables. I remember trying so hard to get someone who literally one outed me in a big pot in a cash game. I ended up paying him off all night.
