1-2NL FOR THE SAKE OF ARGUMENT
Assume you made the mistake of getting involved with this hand in this fashion, vs a 24/18, agressive opener. Assume he bets at least 50% of his range on this flop, which is prob like 66+,A5s+,K9s+,Q9s+,J9s+,ATo+,KTo+,QTo+. For the sake of argument, is a call better, or a raise better and why do you believe so? I think a raise is best because it will FOLD OUT ALL THE HANDS WE BEAT. OR is it best equity wise to wait for a blank to fall on the turn, have it check to us so we can bet and fold out hands that we beat?
SB: $323.15 BB: $187.00 UTG: $148.70 CO: $199.00 Hero (BTN): $227.90 Preflop: Hero is dealt Ad2d(5 Players) UTG folds, CO raises to $8.00, Hero calls $8.00, SB folds, BB calls $6.00 Flop: ($25) 3c9cAc (3 Players) BB folds, CO bets $17.00, Hero..... |

Re: 1-2NL FOR THE SAKE OF ARGUMENT
How is making a raise where every worse hand folds and every better hand calls a good idea?

Its something i thought alot about last night, and it has to do with these kind of board textures. Give it some thought, but im convinced its a good thing...... |

I'm more questioning of your read that he bets 50% of his holdings on this monotone multiway flop.

[/ QUOTE ] Although thats not the point of this argument, I can certainly see an aggressive opener raising 36% and firing a cbet with 100% of his range on any flop. I think that would be close to standard. Especially if he concieves it likely that my cc range on the button is like 90% likely to be pps and Suitedcons. |

you make money by getting the hands that you beat to CALL your bet/raise.

you make money by getting the hands that you beat to CALL your bet/raise. [/ QUOTE ] This is of course the stock logic, and id say in most situations that its the most +EV way to think of it. However me posing this question, in my mind, presupposes that i already understand that concept, but am alluding to a different one. |

Re: 1-2NL FOR THE SAKE OF ARGUMENT
to make it easier, assume that we can only call or raise in the hand we are talking about, that is important.

Re: 1-2NL FOR THE SAKE OF ARGUMENT
no way hes cbetting 50% of his range here. i guess raising is better so bb doesnt get direct odds to draw with like the jack of clubs or something, but this is just a terrible spot to be in. obviously were not raising for value but to protect our hand here.
